Switzer Lake Wanderlust
I love to go on adventures. Whether it be spontaneous weekend road trips to Chicago, traveling to Texas by RV, or exploring the Shenandoah, spending time with friends, listening to music, and discovering new places is something I love to do. Yesterday, my friend Erin, a fellow Alpha Delta Pi and stellar photographer, had a photoshoot planned. We both brainstormed a few ideas of where to shoot and she suggested a lake she had heard of through Instagram. She said it was about 20 minutes north of JMU and with four hours carved out to shoot, of course I wanted to explore this secluded lake! Little did I know I would be thrust into the most beautiful place I had ever been.
I have been a lot of places. From the top of the Empire State Building to the sunset at Wrigley Field and the beaches of St. Augustine and truly nothing compared to the beauty that is Switzer Lake. November in Virginia is beautiful and this scenic view was the perfect canvas for the bright gem tones that the season brings. Not to mention the fog that clung to the top of the mountains and truly took my breath away. It just goes to show you that God's blessings are truly free and wonderful if you take the time to search for them.
This lake is tucked within the George Washington National Forest. In order to get there you may or may not have to take a slightly terrifying one way road (without guard rails) down the side of a mountain but hey, HAVE YOU SEEN THESE PICS! Totally worth it. I will say, don't try to drive the trails far from the lake, they get pretty rocky and muddy.
In this outfit I am wearing my favorite cable knit turtleneck from J. Crew. I found it at a consignment shop a few years back so who truthfully knows how old it is. You can find similar ones linked below though! I love it because it's thick and warm -- perfect for the November air. I styled it with my red skirt and a pair of Hunter Rainboots. My adorable hat is from Pink Pineapple Shop and ties this entire shot together I think. This cashmere cap is adorned with the most adorable puff ball. They come in a thousand different colors! You can check them out here!
