Prepping for J.Crew National Stripes Day

It's officially spring, but I'm currently writing this blog post while a blizzard is happening outside my window. How ironic. Before this big storm took over JMU, I travelled down to Staunton, Virginia to spend a warm Sunday afternoon exploring. Virginia managed to get lucky and experience one day of warm sunshine before the snow hit. It was one of those afternoons where there wasn't a cloud in the sky, the sun was beating down and nothing felt better. The downtown area of Staunton, Virginia is so beautiful and quaint. It's full of inns, mom and pop shops, restaurants, and it sits right up against Mary Baldwin College. My friend and photographer, Erin, and I wandered around and soaked up the last little bit of the weekend.

On our trip to Staunton, which is only about 20 minutes from Harrisonburg, I wore my favorite pair of high waisted jeans from H&M paired with a J. Crew striped tee. First, let's talk about these jeans. I found this pair of jeans at H&M in January for only $10. I never thought I would find a good pair of high waisted jeans that not only fit my waist, but also fit my legs -- and for such a cheap price. They are durable, slightly distressed, and comfortable. They hug exactly where they should, and again were only ten. dollars.

The shirt I paired with outfit is one of my favorites from last spring. J.Crew makes the best tee shirts. They aren't see through and are made of the best quality materials. If I see a striped shirt on sale at J.Crew in my mind, it's already sold. What can I say? I'm always preparing for J.Crew's "national stripes day" on March 31st! These shirts are four season closet staples, but speak volumes when styled on their own during the spring and summer. I love the peony pink paired with the navy blue -- such a classic color combo.

I styled a Jackie O inspired sandal with this outfit. The Lois sandal from Target is so affordable and pretty comfortable. It's a versatile classic leather color and fits really nicely on your foot. I know that 52 degrees was probably a little too chilly to be wearing sandals, but when it's been 30 degrees and cloudy for the past three weeks, all I want to do is find an excuse to not wear Uggs! 🤭 I went a half size down when purchasing them if you needed size referencing. I loved the simplicity of the outfit, so my only other accessory were my pearl studs.
