16 Shoes Every Girl Needs for Fall

Fall -- the best time of the year for fashion -- is here! I love the colors, layers, accessories, and styles that walk the street this time of year. With summer it's easy to throw on a pair of go-to sandals or a great pair of Jack Rogers and call it a day. I swear, I think the same gold wrap up sandals I own go with 95% of my summer outfits. Fall however, requires much more detail when it comes to the shoe game. The further we go, the colder it gets so us ladies have to make sure we're prepared with mules, flats, tennis shoes, and boots alike to ensure we're prepared for any outfit we need to create.

I like having a neutral shoe palette when it comes to fall. Summertime is great for a neon pink wedge or a gingham sandal, but for fall I think it's important to stick to the most basic of colors. Nude, navy, black, and brown are the colors I like to go for -- especially when it comes to boots and heels.

Boots:

I love a good boot assortment for the cooler months. Let's start with my all time favorite boot for fall -- my over the knee boot. These shoes make every girl look taller, leaner, and that much more confident. I love my black suede ones from Dolce Vita, but you can find them anywhere. I also love a boot with a little bit of a heel so you can dress them up or down depending on how you style them.

Another boot I love is the classic leather knee-high boot. Everyone from Frye to Massimo at Target makes knee-high boots. A classic chestnut color is perfect through November too. Don't forget to purchase a rain boot for Fall too! Between damp weather and potential early snow, you need to make sure you're protected against the elements. I don't suggest any other boot except Hunters! They're hands down the best and most stylish on the market.

Finally, I love an ankle boot or a sock boot. The black ones above were a staple in my weekend wardrobe last fall and winter and I'm itching to pull them back out this year. They are great with a pair of jeans and a cute sweater or with a fun skirt and blouse. Again, they'll make you look extremely tall and stylish!

Heels:

During the earlier fall months like September and early October, I think wearing a woven wedge is still perfectly acceptable. I love the Marc Fisher wedges with a pair of flare jeans or with a fun fall romper.

Make sure to have a classic black heel. It can be anything you love, just as long as you consider it that "go to" heel for dressing up. I love a classic black block heel because they're comfortable, practical, and forever classic. Above is a pair of Sam Edelman's but I bought mine from Target.

Lastly, in your trio of heels you should keep a nude heel in your collection of heels for fall. I love the Ivanka Trump Liah heel, but again as long as you have a go to nude heel in your arsenal you'll be fine. These are so classic and can be worn to everything from meetings to church, work, presentations, weddings, and any formal occasion.

Flats:

The majority of my fall shoes are flats, mules, and loafers. The first thing I start with is a good espadrille mule -- seriously what a fabulous combination. I love the leopard espadrilles from Dolce Vita. I also have a basic camel color from Soludos in my closet too for cooler days during fall. They're comfortable and lightweight, perfect for an early fall in the south.

As it gets cooler, I transition into flats and loafers alike. I love a touch of cheetah in my wardrobe and it matches browns, nudes, and blacks so well, it's perfect for autumn. Additionally, I keep a Chanel dupe flat in my closet for fancier occasions and a solid navy flat as well. Again, just perfect shoes that match any outfit.

Lastly, you can't go wrong with a penny loafer in the fall. I have a pair that I absolutely adore and will never go out of style. These bring about an air of classic New England preppy style that I love so much. I get some serious "Rory heading off to Yale" vibes when I wear my loafers. I love a chestnut brown color to match sweaters and my favorite pair of jeans.

Sneakers:

Finally, for casual days I keep all kinds of tennis shoes and sneakers on hand. By now we all know how much I love my Old Skool Vans. These shoes are so structured and look so nice but are extremely comfortable and affordable. I wear both my pairs all the time and I think they're so perfect for a day running errands or on campus. Same goes for the Topshop white sneakers -- they're just so classic but go with a little more than the beige Van.

Lastly, everyone needs a good running shoe and a black and white Nike is always my go to. Of course, slip these on with leggings and a XL sweatshirt or a pair of running shorts and pullover jacket.
