First Pick of the Season
It wasn't fall for more than 12 hours and I was already at the apple orchard with some friends this past weekend. One of my favorite places to visit during fall is the beautiful apple orchard in Broadway, Virginia just 11 miles north of Harrisonburg. This little orchard looks out onto the Blue Ridge mountains and is the perfect backdrop for photoshoots. Not to mention, the apples they grow are absolutely delicious!
Today I wanted to share with you a great way to take your favorite summer dress into autumn. I love this poplin cotton long sleeve dress from Tuckernuck so much, I just couldn't push it towards the back of my closet when I switched over my wardrobe for the season. I wanted to find some way to incorporate it into my early fall outfits to help phase out my summer wardrobe. I'm a big believer that you can wear white after Labor Day if you do it well and work with fall styles, so I layered this drop waist dress with my wool ruffle sweater from J. Crew. I really loved how the ruffle in the skirt and the ruffle on the sweater tied together so well. By layering your favorite wool or cashmere sweater with a summery dress helps cross your favorite styles into different seasons. It also adds an extra layer of warmth to any outfit -- is it just me or did fall come and bring the cold weather with it?!
Because we were walking around in the grass after a week of rain, I knew the ground wouldn't be pleasant for anything but boots. I threw on my matte black Hunter rain boots with this outfit for both style and comfort. Truly, I couldn't have walked around picking apples in loafers or flats! If you want to shop my look, you can do so below!
PS - If you love this dress, size up! It runs short and a little tight in the shoulders! Also, the sweater is sold out in all colors as I bought it last January. However, I linked one in the same colors below so you can style the same colors together!
