Spring 2019 Trends to Watch + Shop

The sun set an hour later and it was 68 degrees yesterday in Virginia. If that doesn't say spring, I can't tell you what does! With the change in the weather and the clocks springing forward, we also need to usher in a new season of fashion with new trends.

What started on the runways in New York back in September, has now tickled into affordable fashion so we can shop. There are a few trends that have seemed to make their way to the forefront of the Spring trends stage like black and white polka dots and safari styles. A few colors have also made their way to the front rows like lavender, light pinks, and coral.

POLKA DOTS ARE HERE TO STAY! I love the 60's feel the classic black and white polka dot gives off. I also adore how it's vintage feel as caught up to modern day silhouettes creating a perfect harmony of fashion-forward style while not forgetting the polka dot's classic roots. Black and white can be worn before Memorial Day and through September for two-season wear. Forever 21 especially, has a stellar collection of black and white polka dot style in dresses, blouses, accessories and swim.

Probably my favorite style trend right now is safari style. The neutral colors with an emphasis on accessories and accents really appeals to my own personal style. Not only are the tortoise shell buttons making me swoon for safari style, but the easy-going vibe the trend gives off also makes me want to purchase every neutral colored blouse there is. I especially love pairing a blousy culotte pant with an easy white blouse and fun sandals. This is a trend that looks fabulous on the runways and in your everyday closet.

In true spring style, pastel colors are making their way back into storefronts. Most popular this season is lavender, packing our closets with a subtle and cool pop of color. If you aren't a huge fan of bright colors in your wardrobe, lavender is the color for you.

Lavender has been a favorite color of mine for a few years now, so it's nice to see it finally getting the recognition it deserves. The likes of Kate Spade and Badgley Mischka featured the beautiful color on runways this past S/S New York Fashion Week, and now you can shop the trend as well. I think this would be a perfect color to don this Easter and this summer at the pool.

My favorite color, light pink, can't seem to part ways with spring style. Preen, Marc Jacobs, and Givency all shared collections at S/S NYFW of including beautiful light pink garments that struck a major chord with audiences at the shows. I think this is such a sweet color to style starting in February through June. Even for Easter, a simple, sweet day dress in a beautiful powder pink would make a classy statement.

If you want to experiment with blush pink, start with something small like a pair of statement earrings with a white blouse and jeans. To make a real statement, try splurging on the pink Polartec half-zip from J.Crew (on sale!).

I can't share about spring trends without bringing up Pantone's color of the year, coral. Coral has packed a major punch of color into the fashion scene in recent months after it strutted down the runways of Christina Siriano, Fendi, Prada, and Marc Jacobs last NYFW. I'm personally a coral gal in the summertime, but it's already being featured in several spring collections at my favorite stores. If you want to experiment with something small, start with a simple top to pair with denim cutoffs or white jeans. If you can't live without the color, invest in a pair of coral colored espadrilles!
