My Usual Grocery List

I asked you all what you wanted to read on the blog today and to my surprise, you wanted to read my grocery list. I love to cook meals each night for dinner, so my grocery list is part ingredients and part snack food and easy-to-prepare meals. After all, I’m still in college and late night meals are common.

I have a total love hate relationship with grocery shopping. Part of me loves going to the store, filling a cart, having a full pantry and knowing that everything in my fridge is something that I love. On the other hand I hate dealing with the crowds, the lines and checking out. Groceries suddenly become much more expensive when you’re the one buying them. Also, up at school I shop at Martins. It’s similar to Giant stores. I wish I could experience the thrill of Trader Joes but the closest one to me is about an hour away.

I went to the grocery store just this week, so here is honest to goodness what I bought:

When I go to the grocery store I have dinners in mind. When I’m in a time crunch I’ll make ravioli, a salad or roasted veggies and pasta. I save pizza for Fridays and usually that lasts for two meals. Otherwise, I love coming home and cooking hot, homemade meals. I know it sounds a little strange but growing up my family always gathered around the table at the end of the day to a home cooked meal. I guess I like the consistency and the tradition makes me feel a little more at home.

Homemade doesn't mean complicated though. Even something as simple as a grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes and veggies is so delicious and soul-warming. A few other meals I like to make are homemade quesadillas, tacos, homemade hamburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, baked ziti and homemade chili (or really anything in the crockpot).

Although my grocery list seems long, this list will feed me for a pretty long time. I hate going to the grocery store and just “stopping on for something”. When I’m finished on campus for the day I’m pretty much mentally finished for the evening and just want to go home and eat and get ready to wind down for the night. This grocery list yields about 18 dinners which lasts longer than a pay-period also. If you have any grocery suggestions you think I should try, let me know! I’m always looking to try something new at the grocery store!
